Is it kind of weird to go get married at a courthouse and have a ceremony a year later?

My fiance' and I are saving up for a marriage because we both want a ceremony. But I'm ready to be his wife now. I dont see anything wrong with this idea but when I approached friends about it, they said it was kind of weird. What do you all think?
